What happened to my mailbox?

This is how I found my mailbox yesterday when I went to get the mail. I have heard of mailboxes being ran over many times, but the bottom part is still normal? It's just the box part that is messed up. Any ideas?

You can also kind of see the pretty flowers that my mother-in-law helped me pick out and my mom helped me plant!

OMG! So they just hit my mailbox with a bat?

Yep, they ride down the street and hit them with baseball bats! Terrible, isn't it!

My first thought was that a bus backed into it. But that isn't very likely, is it?

The baseball bat thing makes more sense. If my child ever...

My guess is someone had a very frustrating day and decided bashing someone's mailbox would be a quick fix. I've heard of baseball bat bashing of mailboxes, just never knew someone it happened to!

ooooh, I wish I would have caught them! My old boss got his car shot with paintballs while sitting outside of his house in the middle of the day. It was really too bad for those kids because his wife pulled up right as it was happening and followed them home. She got their address and they were able to call one of the kid's parents. The mom admitted that she was not surprised and asked what they could do. He told her $20 for a carwash would be good. He later found a very detailed apology note from the kid and $20 in his mailbox.

Living out in the country, stuff like this happens all the time...mailbox baseball, pumpkin smashing, people hunting in your backyard, but I haven't seen much of it in town.

Our mailbox got smashed one night. My dad put a new one up a couple days later, and it was smashed that same night. Every mailbox on our road for about a mile got hit at some point during that week, but they must have gotten caught or something because it all the sudden stopped.
